Our feature for Pet of the Month this month is a cat called Herbie..
Unfortunately, Herbie got trapped in an illegal snare which almost cut him into half. This is a nasty injury which almost killed him and has created a large ulcerating wound on his tummy, which is difficult to heal. To help this heal we used a specialist technique called "omental grafting" and plastic surgery to cover it…

This involved taking some of the omentum (the body's own internal bandage in the tummy of the cat) and tunnelling it under the skin to the wound in the groin. This helps the wound heal by supplying much needed blood and white blood cells to fight infection. Some skin from Herbie's back leg then had to be pulled down to cover the wound.
